A coffee shop that also sells wine sounds like a Yelp fever dream, but JavaVino earns its hyphen. The list is small — 13 bottles, all available by the glass — which tells you this place isn't trying to be a wine destination so much as a relaxed spot where nobody makes you feel weird for ordering a Malbec at 2pm. Prices are modest by any standard, and that's a very good thing.
Don't expect old-world fireworks here. The list leans heavily into approachable California and Washington labels — Boneshaker Zinfandel, Banshee Pinot Noir, Cline Farmhouse Red Blend — with a little South American representation via the Punto Final Malbec. Whites are led by three Stonecap labels (Chardonnay, Riesling, and a Cab for the reds side), plus an Eos Pinot Grigio and a Villa Wolf Rosé from Germany that's a quiet standout. The Elmaro Cranberry from a local Wisconsin winery rounds things out and gives the list a genuine sense of place. It's not deep, but for what this room is, it's more considered than it needs to be.
Every single bottle on the list is available by the glass, which is exactly right for a coffee-house-slash-wine-bar format where people drift in solo, order one pour, and linger. Glass prices run $7–$12, which is genuinely refreshing in an era when $16 Pinot Grigios are normalized. No rotation or reserve pours to speak of, but at these prices, nobody's complaining.
Stonecap Cabernet Sauvignon — $21
A Washington State Cab at $21 a bottle is the kind of pricing that makes you do a double-take. Stonecap consistently punches above its weight for everyday drinking, and at this price it's almost embarrassingly good value — especially when the next Cab on the list jumps to $34.
Villa Wolf Rosé
A German rosé from the Pfalz on a Wisconsin coffee shop list? Nobody's ordering this, and that's a shame. Villa Wolf makes clean, dry, food-friendly rosé that's a world away from the sticky pink stuff most casual spots pour. At $32 a bottle, it's the most interesting pour nobody's asking for.
Nivole D'Asti Moscato
At $46 a bottle, this is the priciest wine on the list by a significant margin — and it's a sweet, low-alcohol Moscato. The wine itself is perfectly fine, but spending the most money here to get the least alcohol in the fruitiest bottle feels like the wrong direction. Spring for the Banshee instead.
Elmaro Cranberry + House Pastry or Baked Good
We don't have the food menu confirmed, but a coffee house is going to have something sweet or baked on the counter. The Elmaro Cranberry — a Wisconsin fruit wine — is bright, tart, and low-tannin, which makes it a natural companion to anything buttery or lightly sweet. It's also a conversation piece, which is half the point in a room like this.
The Bottom Line
JavaVino is La Crosse's most charming low-stakes wine stop — not because the list is ambitious, but because the pricing is honest and the whole thing feels genuinely unpretentious. Send a friend here for an afternoon glass and a coffee chaser, not a serious bottle-list deep dive.

The Wine Guyz earns its Wild Card badge by being something La Crosse didn't necessarily need but clearly does: a real wine bar with range, a relaxed atmosphere, and food that goes beyond bar snacks. We'd send a curious wine drinker here without hesitation — just go in ready to ask questions, since the list doesn't live online and the real program reveals itself in person.
