The wine list lands on your table looking exactly like the room feels — polished, safe, and leaning hard into the Italian classics. It's a well-curated greatest-hits collection that won't confuse anyone but won't excite the curious either. Think airport lounge if the airport were in Tuscany.
The list runs 60-plus bottles with a clear Italian backbone — Tuscany and Piedmont carry the weight, with Veneto and Sicily filling in the gaps and a smattering of California options for the holdouts who won't go Old World. You'll find anchor names like Antinori, Banfi, and Ruffino doing the heavy lifting, which means quality is real but discovery is limited. There's no deep dive into grower Barolos or obscure southern Italian producers here — this is a list built to reassure, not challenge. The California presence feels more like an obligation than a passion project.
By-the-glass runs somewhere between 8 and 15 options depending on the day, covering the expected Italian spread — a Pinot Grigio, probably a Chianti, maybe a Barbera if you're lucky. Prices land in the $10–$18 range, which is fair for Carmel but the pours don't rotate enough to make repeat visits interesting. Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva — $45
Ruffino's Riserva consistently punches above its price point — bright Sangiovese structure, enough age on it to feel serious, and it anchors the Tuscan section without the Tignanello markup. Solid QPR for a white-tablecloth room in Carmel.
Banfi Brunello di Montalcino
Most tables here are ordering Chianti and calling it a night. The Banfi Brunello gets overlooked, but if you're splitting a bottle over a long dinner, this is the move — proper Montalcino structure that can actually stand up to a full meal rather than fading after the second pour.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio
Santa Margherita is a perfectly fine wine that retails around $20 and appears on every Italian-American restaurant list from here to New Jersey. Whatever they're charging for it here, you're paying a premium for familiarity. Order almost anything else.
Antinori Tignanello + Tagliatelle alla Bolognese
Tignanello's Sangiovese-Cabernet blend has the structure and dark fruit weight to match the richness of a long-cooked bolognese without steamrolling the pasta. It's the one bottle on this list that earns its price, and a slow bolognese is exactly the dish that shows it off.
