Wingman Metrics
Fourteen labels. That's it. You flip open the wine section of this menu and you're basically looking at the bottom shelf of a Walmart wine aisle, just with a restaurant logo on top. The list doesn't signal that anyone here thought hard about wine — it signals that someone ordered whatever the distributor rep left behind.
The full list reads like a greatest-hits compilation of mass-market brands: Canyon Road appears three times (Chardonnay, Merlot, Cab), Mark West and Murphy-Goode fill out the Pinot Noir slots, and Kendall-Jackson shows up to punch its usual time card. There's a token international presence — Ruffino Pinot Grigio, Alamos Malbec, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — but nothing that suggests any curatorial intent beyond 'people have heard of these.' The lone curveball is Bloodroot 'Undertow' Red Blend, which at least has a name that sounds like someone tried. Gaps are everywhere: no Rosé, no Sparkling beyond LaMarca Prosecco, zero representation from any interesting region.
Three by-the-glass pours, all Canyon Road, all $7. That's the program. Canyon Road Chardonnay, Canyon Road Merlot, Canyon Road Cabernet Sauvignon — a winery that retails for around $5 a bottle. You're not being gouged exactly, but you're also not being treated like someone who cares about what's in the glass.
J Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon — null
Among the bottle options, J Lohr Seven Oaks is the most reliably drinkable Cabernet on the list — structured enough to hold up against a steak, and a producer that at least tries. Price unknown, but it's the one bottle worth asking about.
Bloodroot 'Undertow' Red Blend
It sticks out on this list like a craft beer at a soda fountain. We don't know exactly what's in the blend, but anything with an actual name and identity is worth a shot when your other options are Canyon Road three ways.
Canyon Road Chardonnay
A $5 retail bottle poured at $7 a glass. The math isn't offensive, but the wine is — flabby, sweet, and forgettable. Order a beer.
Alamos Malbec + Steak
Alamos is a workhorse Mendoza Malbec that punches above its price point. Put it next to whatever steak is on the menu and you've made the most of a short list — it's got enough dark fruit and structure to play well with beef without requiring any effort.
The Bottom Line
This is a hotel-adjacent chain bar doing the bare minimum on wine, and it shows. If you're staying at the DoubleTree and don't want to drive anywhere, grab the J Lohr Cab and call it a night — but don't come here for the list.
· Springfield · Italian / New American
Piccolo punches above its weight for a Springfield Italian spot — the Brunello by the glass alone earns it a second look. It's not destination wine dining, but it's a genuinely solid list that won't embarrass you on a date night.

Downtown · Springfield · Sports Bar & Grill
The Dugout is a perfectly fine sports bar where wings get eaten, games get watched, and wine gets ignored — and that's the right call. Come for the BBQ Bacon Burger, leave the wine glass at home.

South Springfield · Springfield · Farm-to-table gastropub
Farmers Gastropub is a reliable neighborhood stop where the food gets more attention than the wine list — and that's okay. Order the Tempranillo, enjoy the locally sourced kitchen, and don't come here expecting to geek out on wine.

East Springfield · Springfield · American Grill
FD's Grillhouse isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it knows it — the list is safe, the markups lean steep, and the by-the-glass selection does most of the heavy lifting. If you're here for burgers and a decent pour, you'll leave fine; just skip The Prisoner and let Catena or Chapoutier do the work.

South Fremont · Springfield · Upscale Italian
Avanzare isn't reinventing the wine list, but it's doing the right things in a market where that's not guaranteed — real Italian producers, a few adventurous picks, and a happy hour wine deal that's genuinely one of the better values in Springfield. Take someone you want to impress, order the Barbaresco, and get there before 6 PM.

Downtown · Springfield · Upscale Steakhouse
Flame is doing what a downtown Springfield steakhouse should do — keeping the room happy with a recognizable, well-stocked list and an unusually strong by-the-glass program. It's not breaking new ground, but if you know what you want and pick carefully, there's a solid night of wine to be had here.

Lock Stock isn't a wine destination, but Wednesday's half-price Wine Down with Dr. Frank's Riesling in your glass and $1 wings on the table is genuinely hard to argue with. Come for the deal, stay for the surprise.

The Grille has a wine program that would hold its own in a proper city restaurant, which makes it a legitimate reason to seek out this lodge beyond just the mountain access. Markups are real and the Dom can stay on the shelf, but the Coravin program and the depth of California selections make this a genuine Wild Card worth your attention.

Skip the Gas Light on any night but Wednesday — half off all bottles turns a steep list into a genuinely solid deal and makes this a legitimate downtown Portsmouth option. The rest of the week, order a beer.
