You're in White Salmon, Washington — a town most people drive through on the way to Hood River — and the wine list here stops you cold. It's compact at 25–40 labels, but whoever built it clearly cared: Columbia Gorge producers sit next to natural and organic small-batch bottles from around the world, and the pricing doesn't feel punitive. This is not the list you expect when you pull off Highway 14.
The list leans into its geography in a smart way, leaning on Columbia River Gorge producers and Willamette Valley Pinot Noir while threading in global natural and organic bottles that keep things interesting. It's not a deep cellar — you won't find verticals or obscure appellations — but the curation is real and the regional pride feels earned rather than performative. Whites from local Washington Gorge producers are a particular strength, and they fill a gap that most lists in this price range ignore entirely. The gaps are predictable: thin on Italian, thin on Spain, no real sparkling program to speak of.
Eight to fourteen options by the glass is a healthy pour program for a room this size, and the price ceiling of $18 keeps things accessible. The range moves across styles rather than just defaulting to a Chard-Cab-Pinot trio, which earns real credit. We'd like to see more rotation — right now it feels more curated-and-held than actively refreshed.
Columbia Gorge White (local Washington Gorge producer) — $12
The local Gorge whites in the $10–$13 glass range punch well above their price point — this is the region's calling card and Henni's leans into it. Bottles in the $38–$48 range from these producers represent genuine value against what you'd pay at a tasting room down the road.
Small-batch natural or organic global selection
Most tables order the familiar Willamette Valley Pinot and call it a night, but the natural and organic global bottles buried mid-list are where Henni's shows its real personality. Ask the staff what came in recently — there are usually one or two bottles here that have no business being priced this reasonably.

The high-end Willamette Pinot near the $80–$90 ceiling is the safe, obvious order and the one spot where the markup feels like it climbs to match expectations rather than reward curiosity. You can drink better and more interestingly for $20–$30 less on this same list.
Columbia Gorge White (local Washington producer) + Chef's Nightly Seasonal Small Plates
The rotating farm-driven small plates skew bright and vegetable-forward, and the local Gorge whites — typically aromatic, with good acidity — cut through without overwhelming whatever the kitchen is doing with the season. It's the most honest, place-specific combination on the menu.

Henni's is a genuine surprise — a chef-driven neighborhood spot in a small Washington town that built a wine list with actual intention. If you're passing through the Gorge and think wine stops at Hood River, White Salmon has an argument to make.

3 Rivers Grill is a genuinely solid wine destination for a mid-sized grill in Hood River — the Pacific Northwest selections are legit, the view earns its own tip, and a few bottles here are worth making a reservation for specifically. The markups on trophy bottles will make you wince, but stick to the regional lineup and you'll leave happy.
