First Impression
Haven's wine list reads like a work in progress—competent but playing it safe. The selection hits the expected New American marks without taking many risks, and the staff seems eager but still learning the ropes.
Selection Deep Dive
The list leans California-heavy with predictable crowd-pleasers from Napa and Sonoma, plus a respectable showing of Pacific Northwest options that complement the cuisine. There's a token nod to Old World with some French Burgundy and Rhône selections, though nothing that'll make collectors sprint across town. The range covers the bases—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cab—but doesn't venture into anything too adventurous. For a New American spot in Tampa, it's neither ambitious nor lazy, just competently middle-of-the-road.
By the Glass
The glass program appears to stick with safe, recognizable names—likely rotating through standard pours of domestic favorites. We count around 8-10 options that cover the bases without surprising anyone. Rotation seems infrequent, with the same reliable producers showing up visit after visit.
Antica Terra 'Botanica' Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley — $68
Oregon Pinot with restraint and complexity that punches above its price point—shows what the kitchen's capable of pairing with
Matthiasson 'Napa Valley' White Blend
Unusual for Tampa but perfectly suited to New American cooking—aromatic, textured, and food-friendly in ways Chardonnay can't touch
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Marked up to $110+ for a wine that's everywhere and overextracted—plenty of better Cabs at this price point
Domaine Serene 'Evenstad Reserve' Chardonnay + Seared scallops with brown butter
Oregon Chard has the richness to match butter-based preparations without drowning the delicate shellfish
✔️ The Bottom Line
Haven gets the fundamentals right without breaking new ground. Fair pricing and willing staff make it a solid neighborhood option, but the list could use more personality to match the kitchen's ambitions.
