Wingman Metrics
Walking into Goat's on Devine Street, you're not expecting a wine program with a point of view β but that's exactly what you get. The list is compact, but the names on it are doing real work: Black-owned producers, South African labels, and California independents that most gastropubs wouldn't bother tracking down. This isn't a wine list built by a distributor's default order sheet.
The standout editorial choice here is the intentional inclusion of Black-owned producers, which gives the list a coherence most neighborhood wine bars lack entirely. Aslina β the project of Ntsiki Biyela, South Africa's first Black female winemaker β anchors both the red and white columns with her Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Theopolis Vineyards Pinot Noir from Yorkville Highlands, California rounds out the selections and adds some domestic credibility. The list is short, no question, but every bottle on it earns its spot β there's no filler Malbec or anonymous Pinot Grigio clogging things up.
Glass pour specifics aren't fully documented, but the happy hour double-pour on house wine Monday through Friday from 3β6pm suggests they're running an active by-the-glass program rather than just pushing bottles. We'd expect the Aslina Chardonnay and the Theopolis Pinot to be available by the glass given the list's size, but confirm with your server before you settle in.
Select Bottles of Wine β $25
On Fridays, Goat's runs select bottles at $25 flat β if the Aslina labels are in rotation, that's a serious deal for a wine with actual provenance and a story behind it. Show up early and ask what's in the mix.
Aslina Chardonnay
Most people at a gastropub walk past Chardonnay entirely, conditioned by years of oaky, buttery disappointments. Aslina's version is made by South Africa's most important winemaker and deserves a second look β especially at this price point in a neighborhood bar context.
House Wine (post-9pm light-up cup promo)
The 25% off after 9pm with a light-up cup reads more like a gimmick than a wine moment. If you're here for the actual list, skip the late-night novelty deal and order the bottle you actually want at a reasonable hour.
Theopolis Vineyards Pinot Noir + Handcrafted small plates
Yorkville Highlands Pinot runs savory and earthy rather than jammy, which makes it a flexible match for the kind of umami-forward small plates Goat's leans on. It won't bulldoze anything on the table.
Friday β Select bottles available for $25 on Fridays; separate promo offers 25% off all bottles after 9pm with a light-up cup. Happy hour double pours on house wine run MondayβFriday, 3β6pm. Confirm current offers with the restaurant.
π² The Bottom Line
Goat's is punching well above its gastropub weight with a small, intentional list built around producers who actually matter. If you're in Five Points and care about where your wine comes from, this is the right call.
Forest Acres Β· Columbia Β· Contemporary American Bistro with Southern Influences
Tombo Grille isn't going to win any points for boldness, but it delivers exactly what Forest Acres wants: familiar wines, fair-enough execution, and a menu worth eating. Send a friend here for a reliable dinner out β just temper expectations if they're hoping to discover something new.

Irmo / Northwest Columbia Β· Columbia Β· Contemporary American-Italian
Travinia is a reliable neighborhood wine bar that gets the basics right β solid selection, good by-the-glass volume, food-friendly pours β without ever swinging for the fences. Send your friends here for a comfortable bottle with dinner, not for a wine discovery experience.

Sandhill Β· Columbia Β· Contemporary American-Italian
Travinia Sandhill is a reliable wine bar in a market that doesn't have many β not adventurous, not cheap, but consistent enough that you won't regret the reservation. Just steer clear of the obvious traps and you'll have a decent night.

Unknown Β· Columbia Β· Seafood
The Bluefish plays it safe and the pricing reflects more confidence than the list deserves, but the core selection is competent enough for a solid seafood dinner with the right pour. Stick to the whites, ask about the AlbariΓ±o, and don't let anyone talk you into a $78 Cakebread.

St Andrews Β· Columbia Β· Japanese, Sushi
Inakaya Watanabe is clearly a solid neighborhood sushi spot, and the food likely earns its loyal following β but the wine program is an afterthought that nobody has revisited in years. Come for the fish, order sake if they have it, and treat the wine list as a last resort.

The Vista Β· Columbia Β· Asian / Sushi & Pan-Asian
M Vista's wine list is functional, fairly priced, and completely unambitious β which honestly fits the room. Send a friend here for sushi and a casual bottle of J Lohr; don't send them here expecting a wine experience.
