Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Fogo de Chão New Orleans is exactly what you'd expect from a polished chain steakhouse — familiar labels, accessible prices at the entry level, and a heavy tilt toward crowd-pleasing bottles that won't challenge anyone. What you might not expect is a genuinely aggressive happy hour and a half-price South American bottle program that runs Monday through Thursday, which changes the calculus considerably.
Forty-four labels isn't a deep cellar, and the list leans hard on recognizable commercial names — Meiomi, The Prisoner's Unshackled, Robert Mondavi Private Selection — that move units but won't inspire anyone. The South American focus is appropriate for a Brazilian churrascaria, with Alamos and Catena Malbec appearing alongside Bodega Garzón Albariño from Uruguay, which at least shows some regional awareness beyond Argentina. The sparkling section is surprisingly padded, running from La Marca Prosecco all the way up to Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne by the glass, with a Mionetto alcohol-removed option for those who want the bubbles without the buzz. Gaps are obvious: no Tempranillo, no Italian reds worth mentioning, and zero old-world depth.
Thirty-six by-the-glass options is a legitimately impressive count, and the spread covers sparkling, white, and red with enough variety that most tables will find something. Prices run from $10/glass on the entry tier — Natura Chardonnay, Natura Rosé, Alamos Malbec — up to $42/glass for bottles we don't have listed, with the sweet spot sitting around $17-$20. During Bar Fogo happy hour, $8 South American pours make the math very easy.
Catena Malbec — $17/glass
Catena is a legitimate producer making age-worthy Mendoza Malbec, and at $17/glass it's among the most credible bottles on the list. On a Monday-Thursday half-price South American bottle night, this becomes an outright steal.
Bodega Garzón Albariño
Most people at a steakhouse aren't ordering Albariño, let alone a Uruguayan one — but Garzón is a serious estate and their Albariño is crisp and saline enough to cut through the richness of a long churrasco meal. It's the most interesting white on the list and almost everyone will walk right past it.
Chandon Mini Signature Brut
At $30/glass for what is essentially a 187ml single-serve mini bottle of California sparkling wine, you're paying a significant premium for the novelty format. Order the Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne for a few dollars less and get actual Champagne.
Zuccardi Jorjão Malbec + Picanha
Picanha is the star of the churrasco parade — fatty, rich, and boldly flavored — and Zuccardi's Jorjão Malbec brings enough dark fruit and structure to stand up to it without overwhelming the meat. It's a straightforward match that actually makes sense for the context.
Monday-Thursday — Half-price on South American bottles under $150, all day Monday through Thursday. Bar Fogo happy hour also offers $8 South American wines by the glass.
The Bottom Line
Fogo de Chão New Orleans isn't a destination wine list, but the Monday-through-Thursday half-price South American bottle promotion is real and worth planning around — especially when producers like Catena and Zuccardi are on the menu. Come for the Picanha, stay for the deal, and don't overthink the wine program beyond that.

Emeril's wine list punches above its size with smart French selections and a genuine commitment to aged bottles — but the markup is real and the by-the-glass story is unclear. Go in knowing what you want and you'll drink well; go in blind and your wallet may feel the consequences.

The Country Club is a genuinely wild New Orleans experience that happens to have a respectable, fairly priced wine list attached — and that's more than most places with a pool and a clothing policy can say. Send a friend here for the vibe, tell them to order the Riesling with the shrimp and grits, and let the afternoon take care of itself.

Tableau is a reliable, well-curated stop for serious wine drinkers who also want one of the better dining rooms in the French Quarter. The list earns its Wine Spectator nod — just keep an eye on which bottles you're reaching for if the check matters.

Miss River earns its Wine Spectator nod — this is a genuinely thoughtful list tucked inside a hotel restaurant, with a real sommelier and real producers backing it up. Markup keeps it from being a destination for the wine alone, but paired with the food, it's one of the better all-in dining experiences on the river.

Meril is a reliable wine destination in a city that doesn't always take its wine lists seriously — with a real sommelier, a credible California-France selection, and fair pricing, it earns its Award of Excellence the honest way. Send a friend here, tell them to look past the obvious Napa picks, and let Lauren Briley's list do the rest.
