The list at EnVie reads like someone actually thought about it — not a hotel bar filler job, not a steakhouse flex, just a tightly curated selection that matches the bistro energy of the room. Nothing jumps out as a showstopper, but nothing embarrasses itself either. For downtown Lansing, this clears the bar comfortably.
EnVie covers the expected bases — California Cab, Napa Cab, Russian River Chardonnay — but earns points for sneaking in a Gagliole Rubiolo Chianti Classico and a Domaine de Chateaumar Côtes du Rhône Syrah that most casual bistros wouldn't bother with. The Michigan flag gets flown with a Black Star Farms Riesling, which is both the right call and the locally correct one. The list leans heavily red and California-forward, so white wine lovers and Burgundy hunters may feel a little underserved. Still, for a 30-40 label list, the range from Piattelli Malbec to Post & Beam Napa Cab shows someone is paying attention.
With roughly 14-18 by-the-glass options spanning $8-$20, EnVie punches above its weight for a 60-seat bistro in Michigan's state capital. The Gagliole Rubiolo Chianti Classico at $15 a glass is the most interesting pour on the board, and the $9 Black Star Farms Riesling is a low-risk, high-reward local pick. The top end of the glass program — the $20 Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon — is the one pour that feels more like a crowd-please upsell than a genuine recommendation.
Gagliole Rubiolo Chianti Classico — $15
Retails around $23 and pours at a 54% markup — one of the fairest on the list. This is a real Chianti Classico from a serious Tuscan producer, not a grocery store Sangiovese. At $15 a glass in a bistro setting, it's practically a gift.
Domaine de Chateaumar Côtes du Rhône Syrah
Most tables here will drift toward the Napa Cabs, which means this Southern Rhône Syrah gets overlooked. That's a mistake. It's the most food-versatile red on the list and brings an earthiness and pepper note that actually complements the bistro menu rather than competing with it.
Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
At $20 a glass on a list where your next-best Napa option (Post & Beam) is $32 a bottle, the Quilt feels like a pricing island. It retails at $35 and the 75% glass markup is the steepest on the menu. It's a fine wine — just not fine enough to be the most expensive glass pour here.
Gagliole Rubiolo Chianti Classico + Hand-Rolled Pasta
Sangiovese and pasta is a cliché for a reason — it works. The Rubiolo's bright acidity cuts through rich ragù or butter-based sauces without overwhelming, and the Tuscan backbone makes it feel intentional rather than accidental. This is the one combo on the menu that feels genuinely considered.
✔️ The Bottom Line
EnVie isn't trying to be a wine destination, but it's doing more than most downtown bistros bother to do — fair markups, a couple of genuinely interesting bottles, and a glass program worth lingering over. Send a friend here for dinner and tell them to skip the Quilt and go straight for the Chianti.

El Azteco is a beloved college-town institution, and the wine list knows its place — it's there so you can technically order wine, not because anyone thought hard about it. Stick to the margaritas; they're the real program here.
