Emeril's wine list feels like it was built for tourists who want safety — big California names, recognizable French regions, nothing that'll surprise or challenge. It's the kind of list designed not to offend anyone, which also means it doesn't excite anyone. You're paying for the name on the door, not for wine curation.
The list leans heavily on California Cabernet and Chardonnay, with the expected Napa heavyweights like Caymus and Jordan making appearances at predictable markups. There's a French section that hits Bordeaux and Burgundy basics without diving deep into grower Champagnes or Loire oddities. Italy shows up with the usual suspects — Barolo, Chianti Classico — but nothing that suggests anyone's actually thinking about the wine program. New Orleans has incredible food culture; this list doesn't reflect that adventurous spirit.
The glass pour lineup is competent but uninspired — likely a handful of crowd-pleasing whites and reds that rotate seasonally if at all. Expect a Sonoma Chardonnay, a Willamette Pinot, maybe a Malbec for the steak crowd. Nothing wrong with them, but nothing memorable either. The pours do their job: they're inoffensive companions to Emeril's bold Creole flavors.
Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages — $48
Light, bright Gamay cuts through rich sauces without competing, and Jadot's consistent quality means you know what you're getting
Trimbach Riesling
Most people skip Riesling thinking it's sweet, but Alsatian Riesling is bone-dry and handles spice beautifully — perfect for Emeril's Creole heat
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Marked up to $150+ for a wine that retails around $80 and tastes like vanilla extract — pure name-recognition tax
Sancerre, Pascal Jolivet + BBQ Shrimp
The mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc slices through butter and spice, while its citrus edge mirrors the dish's brightness
✔️ The Bottom Line
Emeril's wine list won't embarrass you, but it won't impress you either. Come for the food and the scene, order a cocktail, or stick to the safest bets by the glass. There are better wine experiences in New Orleans.

Chemin a La Mer is a solid steakhouse wine list wearing a French accent — dependable, occasionally exciting, and priced for the occasion rather than the adventurous drinker. If you're here for the river views and a bone-in cut, the wine list will take care of you without surprises.

The Country Club is a genuinely wild New Orleans experience that happens to have a respectable, fairly priced wine list attached — and that's more than most places with a pool and a clothing policy can say. Send a friend here for the vibe, tell them to order the Riesling with the shrimp and grits, and let the afternoon take care of itself.

Miss River earns its Wine Spectator nod — this is a genuinely thoughtful list tucked inside a hotel restaurant, with a real sommelier and real producers backing it up. Markup keeps it from being a destination for the wine alone, but paired with the food, it's one of the better all-in dining experiences on the river.

Meril is a reliable wine destination in a city that doesn't always take its wine lists seriously — with a real sommelier, a credible California-France selection, and fair pricing, it earns its Award of Excellence the honest way. Send a friend here, tell them to look past the obvious Napa picks, and let Lauren Briley's list do the rest.
