Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Eddie V's reads like a greatest hits album of California wine — every name you know, every bottle you've seen at a wedding. It's polished, it's safe, and it's clearly built for the Palm Desert crowd that wants Caymus with their Chilean Sea Bass without having to think too hard.
The 200-plus bottle list leans heavily into Napa and Sonoma heavyweights — Silver Oak, Jordan, Far Niente, Kistler, Stag's Leap — and doesn't stray far from that comfort zone. There's real quality here, no question, but the list doesn't take chances. You won't find a Willamette Valley Pinot sneaking in or a Sicilian white to match the seafood; this is California and California only, which works until you want something different. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2020 is well-earned for what it is — a deep, well-sourced California program — just don't expect any curveballs.
Twenty to thirty pours by the glass is genuinely generous for a restaurant at this tier, and the range tracks the bottle list: expect Rombauer Chardonnay and Duckhorn Merlot to anchor the program. Glasses run $12–$20, which is fair enough given the address and the room, though the selection won't surprise anyone.
Jordan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon — $12–$20 (glass)
Jordan by the glass at a spot like this is the move — it's a legitimately elegant Cab that doesn't need a $100+ bottle commitment, and it drinks above its price point in this context.
Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay
Everyone orders the Rombauer out of habit, but Kistler is the more serious wine — lower-intervention, more Burgundian in structure, and one of Sonoma's genuinely great Chardonnays. Most tables here will walk right past it.
Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, marked up everywhere, and ordered by everyone who doesn't want to make a decision. At a restaurant with Silver Oak and Jordan on the same list, there's just no reason to pay the Caymus premium.
Far Niente Chardonnay + Butter-Poached Lobster Tail
Far Niente's Chardonnay is rich and structured with enough oak to match the butter without drowning the lobster — it's a classic California white doing exactly what it's supposed to do.
The Bottom Line
Eddie V's is a reliable, well-stocked California wine program that gives you exactly what you came for — no surprises, no disappointments, no discoveries. Send your California Cab-loving friend here without hesitation; send your natural wine friend somewhere else.

Bellatrix isn't trying to reinvent the California wine wheel, and that's fine — it plays its lane with enough depth and polish to justify the Wine Spectator hardware. If you're eating here, lean into the familiar names, watch the by-the-glass markups, and let the mountain views do the heavy lifting.

Pacifica is exactly what it needs to be for El Paseo: polished, reliable, and stocked with wines people actually want to drink with their seafood. The markups sting a bit, but Tuesday's half-price wine night turns this from a shrug into a genuine recommendation.

Mitch's has held a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2013, and the list earns it on reliability — not ambition. If you're a California Cab loyalist dining on El Paseo, you'll be perfectly comfortable here; just don't come looking for discovery.

Real Seafood Company clearly puts its energy into the kitchen, and the wine list reflects exactly how much attention is left over — which is almost none. Order the Rotari if you want bubbles, or honestly, just get a cocktail and move on.

Catch is a dependable wine stop for a seafood dinner in Carmel — nothing here will disappoint you, but nothing will surprise you either. If you go in with calibrated expectations and order the Schramsberg with your crab, you'll leave happy.

Votum is operating a world-class wine program in a town most people only stop through on the way to a hike — the depth of this cellar belongs in a major city restaurant, and the sommelier presence means you're not navigating it alone. The markups on the prestige bottles will sting, but find your entry point and this list rewards serious attention.
