California is the anchor here, which makes sense for a steakhouse crowd — expect Napa Cabernets and Sonoma Pinots doing the heavy lifting. Beyond the West Coast backbone, the list appears to cast a wider net with enough regional variety to keep things interesting, though it isn't reinventing the genre. For a hotel restaurant, the curation feels intentional rather than outsourced — credit to sommelier Caroline Donahue, who seems to be shaping a real program rather than just filling slots. Gaps likely exist in the Old World and natural wine departments, but this is a steakhouse, not a wine bar, and the list knows what it is.
Somewhere between 12 and 20 pours by the glass, which is a solid number and suggests they're rotating through enough variety to keep regulars from getting bored. For a waterfront spot with seafood on the menu alongside steaks, we'd hope to see white and rosé options holding their own against the inevitable Cab-heavy pour list. Bern's is a legend for a reason, and even this sparkling-focused slice of its list shows a house that genuinely cares about what's in the glass. The grower Champagne presence alone makes it worth a visit — just steer clear of the Korbel section and spend a few extra dollars where it counts.
