Wingman Metrics
The Cavalier is genuinely a cool room — intimate, moody, built for live music — and the wine list reads exactly like what it is: an afterthought assembled for concert-goers who want something in a glass that isn't beer. Six to ten wines, most of them house pours with no producer name worth mentioning, priced to move rather than impress.
There's no cellar here, no regional story, no attempt at curation. The list leans almost entirely on generic domestic value labels — house Cab, house Chardonnay — with a Prosecco DOC and a seasonal Rosé rounding things out. No Old World depth, no interesting grapes, no local Wisconsin producers getting a look. If you came hoping to find something to geek out over between sets, you won't.
All six to eight options are available by the glass, which is the entire list, so that's less a feature and more just the format. Pours run $7–$10, which is honest money for what's being served. Don't expect rotation — what's on the menu tonight is what's been on the menu for a while.
Prosecco DOC NV — $9
At $9 a glass for a Prosecco DOC that retails around $12 a bottle, this is actually the sharpest buy on the list. It's light, fizzy, and works in the lounge setting. Order two and enjoy the opener act.
Rosé by the Glass (Seasonal)
It shows up seasonally and gets no fanfare, but a cold glass of Rosé at a live music venue on a summer night is hard to argue with. Ask if it's available — it tends to disappear without announcement.
House Chardonnay
Generic label, no producer identity, and Chardonnay deserves at least a fighting chance to show some character. This one won't. Save the $8 for a cocktail — the bar program here is clearly where the love went.
Prosecco DOC NV + Fries or Tots Basket
Salty, crispy bar snacks and a cold glass of bubbles is one of those combinations that just works. The acidity cuts through the grease, the bubbles keep things lively, and neither one is trying to be something it's not.
❌ The Bottom Line
Come for the live music, come for the cocktails — but don't come for the wine list. The pricing is fair enough that ordering a glass won't sting, but the selection gives you almost nothing to get excited about.

Le Chateau is a genuinely lovely place to eat, and the wine list has flashes of good instinct — the Ott Rosé, the Vouvray, the Loire focus. But unnamed producers, punishing markups on the house selections, and a static list hold it back from being a real wine destination. Order the Domaines Ott, skip the Malbec, and let the room do most of the heavy lifting.

The Freighthouse won't blow any wine geeks away, but it's a fair, unpretentious list that does its job well in the context of a classic American steakhouse — and that port selection is a genuine reason to linger. If you're in La Crosse and want something reliable with your prime rib, you could do a lot worse.

The Waterfront isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it knows it — but fair prices, a reasonable by-the-glass spread, and that Vignelaure Rosé make it more than fine for a river-view dinner. Send a friend here for the patio and the fish fry; just steer them toward the right glass.

The Crow is a legitimately fun bar — just come for the bourbon and craft beer, not the wine. If you need a glass, grab the Elmaro Rosa to support a local producer and call it a night.
