The Chain That Actually Tries With Wine

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Carrabba's lands exactly where you'd expect it — familiar names, approachable prices, and a clear lean toward Italian-American comfort. It's not trying to impress anyone, but it's also not embarrassing itself. For a chain on South Florida Avenue, that's more than half the battle.
The list runs 35-45 bottles with Italy and California holding down every corner. You've got your Chianti Classico from Ruffino and Castello Banfi, Santa Margherita and Ecco Domani covering the Pinot Grigio crowd, and Duckhorn Decoy and Meiomi flying the California flag. It's a greatest-hits playlist — no deep cuts, no surprises, but everything is recognizable and reasonably priced. The Italian focus makes sense given the menu; the California picks feel more like crowd appeasement than curation.
Fourteen options by the glass is genuinely solid for a chain at this price point, with pours running $7–$13. You're not getting anything obscure, but you can work your way through an Italian-ish dinner without committing to a bottle. La Marca Prosecco by the glass is a nice touch to open the meal.
Castello Banfi Chianti — $28
Banfi's Chianti is a reliable, food-friendly Sangiovese that retails around $12-$15 — at the low end of this list's bottle pricing, it's the most honest deal on the menu and it actually fits the food.
Ruffino Chianti Classico
Most tables here default to the California options, but the Ruffino Chianti Classico is the wine this menu was built for — bright acidity, cherry fruit, and enough structure to handle the wood-grilled proteins without fighting them.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio
Santa Margherita is the wine your aunt orders because she's heard of it. It's fine, but you're paying a brand premium — Ecco Domani does essentially the same job at a lower price point on this same list.
Ruffino Chianti Classico + Chicken Bryan
The Chianti Classico's acidity cuts through the goat cheese and lemon butter sauce on the Chicken Bryan without overpowering it — this is the kind of Italian-instinct pairing the list is quietly built for.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Carrabba's isn't where you go to discover wine, but it's where you go to drink something decent without getting ripped off. Send a friend here if they want a familiar Italian night with a glass that makes sense — just steer them toward the Italian side of the list.

Red Lobster's wine list does its job in the narrowest possible sense — it gives people something to drink. But there's no value play here, no curiosity, no effort. Order the cocktail or a beer and spend your wine money somewhere that earned it.

Come for the steak, order whatever beer they have on draft, and save the wine conversation for somewhere else. LongHorn isn't pretending to be a wine destination, and at least the prices reflect that — but the list has the ambition of a footnote.

Olive Garden is not a wine destination and never claimed to be — the wine list exists to generate margin, not to inspire. Order the Chianti, enjoy the breadsticks, and save the serious bottle for another night.

Outback Lakeland's wine program exists to check a box, not to enhance a meal. Prices are fair for what you're getting, but what you're getting is a grocery store list at a sit-down restaurant — order the Malbec, enjoy your steak, and don't expect more than that.

Bonefish Grill Lakeland won't blow any wine enthusiast's mind, but it's a functional, inoffensive list with a social hour that softens the markup sting enough to make it worthwhile. Come for the Bang Bang Shrimp, grab a glass of Chandon, and set your expectations accordingly.

Terrace Grille is a reliable hotel bar wine list — not exciting, not embarrassing, just competent. If you're already staying at the hotel or grabbing dinner downtown, you'll drink fine; just don't come here expecting discovery.

Chef T's Garden Grill isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list is broad enough to find something worth drinking, especially if you like Napa Cab with your dinner. Markups on the top-shelf bottles are a reason to pause, but the mid-tier options and solid by-the-glass count make this a reliable neighborhood pick rather than a reason to stay home.

Scarpa's punches well above its weight for a family-owned Italian spot in Lakeland — the Tuscany focus is genuine and the BTG count is legitimately impressive. The markups will sting if you're paying close attention, but the intent behind this list is hard to argue with.

Biaggi's is a reliable fallback when you want wine with dinner and don't want to think too hard — but steer toward the Italian bottles and ignore the California blockbusters your server will inevitably steer you toward. Not worth a special trip for the wine program, but not an embarrassment either.
