First Impression
The wine list at Captain Charlie's reads exactly like the restaurant feels — casual, comfortable, and firmly rooted in California. No surprises here, but no unpleasant ones either. For a laid-back Juno Beach seafood spot that's held a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2006, this is a list that does its job without overthinking it.
Selection Deep Dive
The 80-120 bottle list leans hard into California, which makes sense given the Wine Spectator recognition calling that out as a clear strength. You'll find familiar names that do real work — Rombauer, Sonoma-Cutrer, Jordan, Duckhorn — nothing that'll make a wine nerd's jaw drop, but nothing embarrassing either. What's missing is any meaningful reach outside California: no Loire Sauvignon Blanc to challenge the Duckhorn, no Burgundy to make Meiomi feel outclassed, no coastal Italian whites that would sing alongside stone crab. The list is built to reassure, not to explore.
By the Glass
With 12-18 pours by the glass and prices running $9-$16, the program is accessible enough that you can drink well without committing to a bottle. The range covers the obvious bases for a seafood-forward menu — expect the Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blanc to dominate the white selection. Rotation appears limited, so don't expect seasonal surprises showing up mid-visit.
Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc — $35–$45 bottle range
Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc consistently punches above its price bracket — bright, structured, and built for exactly the kind of grouper and mahi-mahi dishes that define this menu. It's the smartest order on the list.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay
Most people at a Florida beach spot default to Rombauer on autopilot. The Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches is the quieter, more food-friendly Chardonnay on this list — less butter, more tension, and it holds up better against the lobster bisque.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
KJ Vintner's Reserve is a grocery store staple that routinely gets marked up to restaurant prices it doesn't deserve. You're paying for the label recognition. Step up to Sonoma-Cutrer for a few dollars more and you'll taste the difference immediately.
Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc + Florida Stone Crab Claws
Stone crab's sweet, briny density needs a wine with enough acidity to cut through without overwhelming the delicate flavor — Duckhorn's Sauvignon Blanc hits that mark cleanly, keeping each bite as good as the first.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Captain Charlie's isn't a destination wine experience, but it's a solid, fairly priced California list that earns its long-standing Wine Spectator credentials by not screwing up the obvious. Send a friend here for the stone crab and a bottle of Duckhorn — they won't be disappointed.
