Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Capital Prime reads like a greatest hits album of American fine dining staples — Caymus, Silver Oak, Rombauer, The Prisoner. It's a list built for recognition, not discovery. If you've eaten at a nice steakhouse in the last decade, you've seen most of these bottles before.
Napa Cab dominates here, and the list doesn't pretend otherwise. You'll find Stag's Leap Artemis, Darioush Caravan, and Daou Soul of a Lion alongside the obligatory Silver Oak and Caymus — all fine bottles, none of them surprises. There are gestures toward France (a Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015, a Château Rouget Pomerol 2018) and a welcome Vietti Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo that suggests someone on staff has at least glanced at a map of Piedmont. The Adelsheim Breaking Ground Pinot from Willamette and a Weinbach Pinot Blanc from Alsace add some texture, but this is fundamentally a red-meat-and-red-wine list with very little room to roam.
Fourteen options by the glass is respectable for a 36-label list, and the $10–$16 range keeps things accessible relative to entree prices. The Prisoner Unshackled Chardonnay at $16/glass is a reasonable pour, and the Adelsheim Pinot at $18 is the most interesting glass on offer. Don't expect the list to rotate — this feels set-and-forget.
Decoy Merlot Sonoma County 2021 — $44
At a restaurant where bottles creep toward triple digits fast, the Decoy Merlot at $44 is one of the few spots where you can order a full bottle without a second mortgage. It's a polished, reliable pour that works well with steak without demanding your full attention.
Vietti Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo
In a list full of California muscle, this Piedmontese Nebbiolo is the quiet outlier most tables will walk right past on the way to Caymus. It's lighter on its feet, shows real savory complexity, and is built for food in a way that big Napa Cabs often aren't.
Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut NV
At $160 a bottle, you're paying a steep premium for a label that retails widely around $50–$60. Veuve is a crowd-pleaser but it's also one of the most heavily marked-up bottles on this list. If you want bubbles, the Dom Pérignon at $375 at least makes a statement — the Veuve at $160 just makes a dent.
Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015 + Filet Mignon
The Pegau is a garrigue-scented, structured Southern Rhône that's had years to mellow into something genuinely complex. Against a filet — buttery, mild, needing the wine to do some of the heavy lifting — it's a combination that earns its $231 price tag far more than a fifth Napa Cab would.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Capital Prime plays it safe and charges you for the privilege — the list is dependable but rarely exciting, and markups will sting if you're not watching. That said, if you're in the Lansing area and want a proper bottle of wine with a serious steak, this is your most credible option.
East Lansing · Lansing · Mexican
El Azteco is a beloved college-town institution, and the wine list knows its place — it's there so you can technically order wine, not because anyone thought hard about it. Stick to the margaritas; they're the real program here.

Beggar's Banquet is a beloved East Lansing institution and the wine list reflects that — it's comfortable, familiar, and a little overpriced. Come on a Wednesday when half-price bottles make the steep markups survivable, order the bubbles, and remember that the beer list is probably the real reason everyone keeps coming back.

Peanut Barrel is a beloved East Lansing institution and a genuinely great place to grab a burger and a beer — emphasis on the beer. The wine list is a placeholder, not a program, and no one at the table or behind the bar is pretending otherwise.

Zoobie's isn't where you go to geek out on wine, but if you're meeting friends for dinner in Old Town and someone at the table insists on a glass, you won't be stuck with regret. Grab the Malbec or the Mawby rosé, let everyone else argue about the beer list.
