First Impression
You walk into Black Sheep for a burrito and a craft beer, and the wine list is basically a bonus track nobody asked for — but here it is anyway. Eight bottles, all available by the glass, priced for the crowd that just wants something cold and drinkable with their fusion tacos. Nobody's coming here for the Burgundy, and that's fine.
Selection Deep Dive
The list is short and predictable: California dominates with Freakshow Cab, Sea Sun Pinot Noir, and Lapis Luna Red Blend doing the heavy lifting, with Tiziano Pinot Grigio and Risata Moscato rounding out the Italian token appearances. The lone outlier is Tres Buhis Nocturna Red from Spain, which at least signals someone glanced beyond the California aisle at Total Wine. There are real gaps — no sparkling, no rosé beyond the Cline Mourvèdre Rosé — but for a brewery-first spot in Charleston, WV, this is more than most people expect to find.
By the Glass
All eight bottles are available by the glass, which is the right call when your list is this small — no need to commit to a full bottle of Freakshow Chardonnay on a Tuesday night. Rotation appears nonexistent; this list looks like it was set once and hasn't moved since. What you see is what you get, and honestly, that's fine for the vibe.
Tres Buhis Nocturna Red — null
The only bottle on this list that requires any curiosity whatsoever. A Spanish red in a sea of California comfort picks, and likely the most interesting drink here outside of the craft beer taps. Worth the gamble.
Cline Mourvèdre Rosé
Most people at a burrito joint are going to grab a beer or default to the Pinot Grigio. This Mourvèdre Rosé from Cline — a producer that actually knows what they're doing with Rhône varieties — is a smarter, more food-friendly pour that almost nobody will order. Their loss.
Freakshow Chardonnay
The label is doing a lot of work. This is grocery-store Chardonnay dressed up in carnival clothes — fine for what it is, but there's nothing here that justifies choosing it over a cold craft beer that's actually the point of being at Black Sheep.
Tres Buhis Nocturna Red + Fusion Burrito
A Spanish red blend with some fruit and spice backbone can go toe-to-toe with the bold, layered flavors in one of their fusion burritos in a way that a soft California Cab simply can't. It's the one combination on this list that actually makes sense as a pairing.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Black Sheep is a brewery that threw wine on the menu as an afterthought, and the list reflects that — but the prices are fair, the Spanish red is a quiet surprise, and if you're here for burritos and craft beer anyway, the wine is just a bonus. Don't choose Black Sheep for wine; do feel free to order a glass while you're there.
