Wingman Metrics
Thirteen bottles. That's the whole list. At a rooftop bar with San Diego skyline bragging rights, we expected more ambition — instead we get a wine program that reads like it was assembled during a ten-minute grocery run. The names are familiar, the selection is safe, and the whole thing feels like an afterthought to the cocktail menu.
The list is organized into sparkling, white and rosé, and red — all thirteen of them. Sparkling brings Segura Viudas Rosé Cava, Zonin Prosecco, and Mumm Napa Brut; it's not deep but at least it's got range. Whites include Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc and Maso Poli Pinot Grigio alongside two Chardonnays — the crowd-pleasing Matchbook and the legitimately good Far Niente. On the red side, you've got Thread Count Red Blend, Antigal Uno Malbec, Inscription Pinot Noir, J. Lohr Hilltop Cab, and the obligatory Caymus — a lineup that tells you exactly who this list is trying to please without trying very hard. There are no surprises, no interesting producers, and nothing from outside the predictable California-plus-imports comfort zone.
No by-the-glass breakdown is listed on the website, which is its own kind of red flag — you're likely ordering bottles or whatever the bartender decides to pour. Without a clear glass program, the rooftop's light, casual-drinking energy is actually working against the wine list rather than with it.
Segura Viudas Rosé Cava — null
If you're ordering anything here, make it the Cava. Segura Viudas consistently punches above its price point, and a Spanish sparkling rosé on a San Diego rooftop is genuinely the right call — even if the list stumbled into it by accident.
Far Niente Chardonnay
It's the one bottle on this list that signals someone, at some point, gave a damn. Far Niente is a Napa benchmark Chardonnay — rich, well-made, and usually priced accordingly. It's surrounded by workhorse brands, which makes it stick out like a good idea at a bad meeting.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is the most over-ordered, over-marked-up Cabernet in American restaurant history. It's fine wine, but at rooftop prices in a tourist-adjacent setting, you're paying for the name recognition more than what's in the glass. Pass.
Miraval Rosé Grenache + Coastal seafood or rooftop appetizers
Miraval Rosé is dry, crisp, and built for warm-weather outdoor drinking — exactly the context you're in. It's the most situationally appropriate bottle on the list, and Grenache-based Provençal rosé plays well with anything light coming out of a coastal kitchen.
The Bottom Line
Birdseye is a rooftop bar that happens to have wine, not a wine destination that happens to have a rooftop. Drink the view, order a cocktail, and if you must order wine, go Cava or Miraval and call it a day.

Fleming's San Diego is a reliable if unambitious wine destination — the sheer volume of by-the-glass options earns it real points, but the markups and chain-wide uniformity keep it firmly out of must-visit territory. Go for the steak, order smarter than the table expects, and keep your eyes on the lower half of the price list.

Paradisaea's wine list punches well above what you'd expect from a San Diego New American — eclectic without being pretentious, fairly priced without being cheap. We'd send a wine-curious friend here and tell them to skip the obvious bottles and dig into the Italian section.

Allegro's wine list isn't trying to impress anyone, and that's not a knock — it's a focused, fairly priced selection that does exactly what a brunch Italian spot needs it to do. Send a friend here for bubbles and a mid-afternoon white; just don't expect to geek out over the reds.

Cori is doing something genuinely unusual: an all-Italian wine list in San Diego that actually goes deep, skips the clichés, and gives you producers worth knowing. We'd absolutely send a wine-curious friend here — just make sure to ask what's open by the glass before you commit.

Frenchy's Hideout is the kind of wine list that rewards people who look past the Caymus and actually read the menu — there's real French depth here at prices that won't ruin your night. If you like your bistro to drink like a bistro, this is your spot.

Valle is a Wild Card in the best possible sense — a Michelin-caliber tasting menu anchored to a wine region most diners have never explored, served in a beach town that definitely didn't ask for this level of ambition. If you're open to letting Baja wine country surprise you, this is one of the more compelling wine experiences in San Diego County.
