Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Azara reads like someone actually thought about it — Albariño next to Moschofilero, Cremant next to Champagne, a Greek red hiding near the bottom. For a tapas spot in Atlanta, that's not nothing. Forty-five labels isn't massive, but it punches above its weight.
The list skews heavily European and mostly white and sparkling, which makes sense given the small-plates format — lighter wines, more pours, no one slowing down for a big Cab. The Spanish and French anchors are solid: Terras Gauda's Abadia de San Campio Albariño is a legitimately respected producer, and the Domaine Pichot Vouvray adds a Loire curveball most places wouldn't bother with. The Greek corner — Gai'a Moschofilero and Skouras Nema Agiorghitiko — is the sleeper move, suggesting whoever built this list has range. The red section is the weakest link: a few crowd-pleasers and not much depth, though the TerraNoble Azara Cabernet Sauvignon is a clever house-branded wink.
Twenty-eight by-the-glass options on a 45-label list is a seriously high ratio — almost everything is available by the pour, which is exactly what you want for a tapas night of mixing and matching. The glass price range of $7–$20 keeps it accessible without feeling cheap. No obvious rotation or reserve BTG program, but the breadth more than compensates.
Terras Gauda Abadia de San Campio Albariño 2023 — $23 bottle
Abadia de San Campio is one of the most consistent Rías Baixas producers out there — bright, saline, and built for food. At the low end of the bottle range, this is the clear value play of the night.
Gai'a Monograph Moschofilero 2024
Most people see 'Moschofilero' and skip right past it. That's a mistake. Gai'a is a benchmark Greek producer and this white has a floral, citrusy tension that cuts through rich tapas brilliantly. You'll be the most interesting person at the table.
ZD Chardonnay 2023
ZD is fine California Chardonnay — reliable, consistent, and widely distributed. It's also the most predictable bottle on the list, in a context where you have actual reasons to drink something interesting. Pass.
Domaine Pichot Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2023 + Any seafood or cheese-forward tapas on the menu
Vouvray's tension between orchard fruit and mineral edge makes it a natural foil for briny or creamy small plates. Pichot is a proper Loire producer and this pour earns its spot on the table.
The Bottom Line
Azara's list is genuinely more interesting than it has any obligation to be for a tapas restaurant, and the by-the-glass program alone makes it worth exploring. Go in with an open mind, skip the Chardonnay, and let the Greek and Iberian wines do the talking.
